My Woodhall Spa

Woodhall Spa is weird…or should that be unique? It is a village in the middle of rural Lincolnshire with a history that sets it in the centre of high Victorian society. It has been bombed and rebuilt, it has been home to the Army and the RAF and its current population comes from all four corners of the earth. Some call it a retirement village but to look at people’s diaries there is more going on in Woodhall Spa than in the busiest of large towns.

So, what does this place mean to me?

I became hooked on the village in 2006 when I spent most of a summer renovating a house here. My husband Andy and I then decided to ask the RAF nicely if we could be posted to Lincolnshire so that we could live in Woodhall Spa: this happened in 2008. One extensive house renovation later and we are now living happily as part of this unique, quirky and particularly friendly community.

Woodhall is a fab place – helped me decide to move nearby. Love the combination of history and contemporary character. Our friends love coming to stay even though I think some think it is quaint and quirky, like a lovely step back in time they can tell their mates about back home!

About this Sponsor

Woodhall Spa Cottage Museum is an accredited independent museum in the heart of Lincolnshire. It is run entirely by volunteers and is housed in a rare Boulton and Paul prefabricated corrugated iron bungalow. The fascinating displays tell the story of a unique spa village, its exclusive Edwardian clientele and its 20th century military connections. Information is also provided on older features in the area such as the abbeys at Kirkstead and Stixwould and the Tower-on-the -Moor, a 15th century hunting lodge.
