Ashby de la Zouch Museum Digital Engagement Projects

17th August

Well we have done quite a bit of work since my last post.  First of all we started filming some of the Ashby sports groups and have so far visited the Ivanhoe Football Club and the Ashby Hastings Cricket Club.  Ashby Bowls Club will be visited soon and once the school go back we will also be in touch with some other clubs.

From the Ivanhoe Football Club match we went straight to the Ashby Open Gardens Day where we filmed two very lovely gardens – and their very helpful owners!  Mary has also been out and about on Ashby allotments filming the gardeners and their produce there.  We have now finished our section on The Hub.  Our short film, which can be seen on our Museum website, shows a Fashion Show organised by the young people of the Hub in support of the Fair2All Fair Trade shop in Ashby.  It also explains some of the youth work done by The Hub.  I am sure a lot of people will be interested and surprised to learn that The Hub is much more than a cafe.

We have a bit more church filming to do and we are part way through filming the various stages of putting on the play “Rebecca” at The Venture Theatre, a play which Mary herself is directing.  The finished film will show everything from the auditions and early rehearsals through set building, lighting and sound and final production.

About this Sponsor

Ashby Museum was established in 1982 in a small cottage in Lower Church Street. In 1991 it relocated to its present home in North Street, where it shares the old National School building with the town Library and Tourist Information Centre. In 2006-7, thanks to a major Heritage Lottery Fund Grant, a two storey extension was added. It is a Registered Charity and is run by a group of trustees supported by over 50 volunteer custodians. It won the Leicestershire Heritage Award for best temporary exhibitions in 1998, 2001 and 2003. In July 2007, the museum won Museum of the Year in Leicestershire. It works closely with the county Museum Service and other independent museums in the area, sharing expertise and artefacts.
