Village Uncovered, Marton Community Heritage Project

Village Uncovered – Marton Community Heritage Project

This is an exciting project celebrating Marton’s Roman heritage.

Marton can be found in Lincolnshire, on the eastern bank of the River Trent.  An important Roman road crosses the Trent at this point.  This road brances off Ermine Street, just north of Lincoln, and leads to York on a route which avoids crossing the Humber.  Along each side of the road on the approach to the crossing at the Trent there is a Roman fort and extensive roadside settlement, which we don’t yet fully understand.

This is a project which aims to help the community uncover more about their fascinating heritage.

We want as many local people to get involved as possible!  Check out the blog for more details…
