Take One Picture: an art project at Nottingham City Museums and Galleries.
Collaboration between local schools and cultural centres has the potential to create exciting opportunities for learning to unfold. During visits to museums and art galleries, children can engage directly with history and culture within a cultural environment.
Practitioners working in schools have a wealth of knowledge and expertise incorporating a wide spectrum of issues relating to education. The benefits of such alliances are evident when the children’s sense of enthusiasm has been ignited, impacting positively on their own levels of achievement.
‘Take One Picture’ is the National Gallery’s countrywide scheme for primary schools to take part in regionally. In Nottingham, teachers are invited to select a painting from those works in the Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery collection that have been especially chosen for the Take One Picture project, to use as a stimulus for their own schemes of work. The project is intended to incorporate a variety of curriculum areas.
