Well we had a fantastic firework display last Saturday night despite the weather and we managed to capture it on film. Mary also did a good job of filming her street party the following night despite the bitter cold.
On Tuesday I went in to Willesley Primary School to lend my two laptops and enable the children to edit their films (their equipment sadly not up to the job). We managed to get 6 films edited and finished by 2pm. Could any professional company manage that?
I now have the job of deciding who should win the prize for who convinced us that their character did the scariest thing. They all put in such a lot of effort that I decided everyone should get an award for something so next Wednesday we are holding an Oscars event at the Museum with awards for Best Actor, Best Film, Best Artistic Effect, Best Camerawork etc.
In the meantime I have edited the Remembrance Day film and have finished the Churches of Ashby. I want to get the latter out on DVD this week so that we can send it to the churches with a Christmas Card.
Our “Premiere” night has been fixed for Wednesday March 2nd. This will be for an invited audience to see a 30 or 40 minute compilation of our films. The total running time of all our edited footage will probably be more than 3 hours and we will be showing this in its entirety on the following Saturday March 5th. It will run throughout the the day with people able to pop in and out as they wish to see the bits they are interested in. I am also hoping that our film on The Churches of Ashby – which has a running time of 52 minutes and is not available on the internet – will show in its entirety one evening in February.

Ashby Museum was established in 1982 in a small cottage in Lower Church Street. In 1991 it relocated to its present home in North Street, where it shares the old National School building with the town Library and Tourist Information Centre. In 2006-7, thanks to a major Heritage Lottery Fund Grant, a two storey extension was added. It is a Registered Charity and is run by a group of trustees supported by over 50 volunteer custodians. It won the Leicestershire Heritage Award for best temporary exhibitions in 1998, 2001 and 2003. In July 2007, the museum won Museum of the Year in Leicestershire. It works closely with the county Museum Service and other independent museums in the area, sharing expertise and artefacts.
